AHU refurbishment by DCI

AHU refurbishment takes off at Heathrow

The Project

DCI was asked to investigate a poorly performing air handling units (AHUs) within a Heathrow airport catering facility operated by Gate Gourmet – a world leader in airline catering and provisioning.

The challenge

Following detailed analysis, DCI’s report identified multiple issues which would usually be solved with an expensive replacement of the AHU. However, DCI recommended refurbishment as a more cost-effective solution.

The solution

Through expert and meticulous work, DCI conducted a comprehensive overhaul of the AHUs. The project included replacing the fan and motor drives; deep cleaning the units; treating all corrosion throughout; replacing the existing chilled water coil drain trays, traps and drainage; combing out all damaged fins on existing coils; greasing fan bearings; and replacing filters.

Conclusion

By focussing on a more cost efficient and quicker option than replacement for the client, DCI brought the HVAC equipment back from poor condition to full performance – saving not only the significant cost of new units but also the wastefulness of scrapping the originals.
