Spar, Tollgate Service Station, Kent - for A.F. Blakemore & Son Ltd
The project
The UK’s largest division of Spar UK, A.F. Blakemore & Son Ltd asked DCI to upgrade the refrigeration systems when doubling the size of its Tollgate service station on the busy A2 in Kent. This involved DCI designing and installing centralised plant, four cold rooms and a full RDM refrigeration alarm network.
The challenge
Given the nature of the services’ 24-hour operation the client wanted minimal downtime for trading, despite the significant scale of the project.
The solution
DCI devised a plan to keep existing plant operational while simultaneously installing the new system - all in line with the phase plans for the extension. This involved DCI repositioning existing plant, services and cases several times throughout the project in order to maintain trading for the busy site.
After a number of weeks DCI was able to decommission the old plant for a final time and remove it from site with 18 new refrigeration cases and four new cold rooms ready to take over in an extremely short space of time.
The entire project featured the following multiple elements - all managed by DCI
- Detailed site survey
- Phase works involving de-commissioning, relocation, and re-commissioning existing plant, services and cases
- Detailed Phase M & E drawings
- Design and installation of new refrigerations system
- Installation of four cold rooms including plant equipment and controls
- Refrigeration plant design, manufacture and installation
- All refrigeration services including valves and controls
- Full RDM refrigeration alarm network
- All refrigeration wiring and controls
Conclusion
DCI was able to undertake a complex and sizeable retail installation while ensuring that disruption to ongoing trade at this busy site was negligible throughout the full duration of the project.
